About Rockwell Hardness Tester
A Rockwell Hardness Tester is a precision material testing instrument used to determine the hardness of metals and alloys by measuring the depth of penetration of an indenter under a specified load. It provides quick, direct, and reliable hardness readings, making it one of the most widely used methods in industrial quality control.
This machine is extensively used in metallurgical laboratories, heat treatment plants, automotive industries, engineering workshops, and research institutions for routine and production testing of materials.
Key Features
- Direct hardness reading without complex calculations
- High-precision load application system
- Diamond cone and steel ball indenters included
- Digital / analog display options (model dependent)
- Automatic load application and release system
- Rigid and vibration-free heavy-duty frame
- Wide range of Rockwell scales (HRA, HRB, HRC, etc.)
- Conforms to ASTM / ISO / BIS standards
Working Principle
The Rockwell hardness test works on the principle of depth measurement of indentation. A minor load is first applied to set the indenter, followed by a major load to create indentation. After removing the major load, the depth difference is measured and directly converted into a Rockwell hardness value on the machine scale.
Applications
- Hardness testing of steel, alloys, and metals
- Heat-treated components evaluation
